RORO Vehicle Shipping UK to Egypt
Understanding the procedures involved when importing your vehicle in to Egypt will help to avoid any problems with customs when the vehicle arrives. Our RORO services sail every week from Southampton only 1-2 times a month. Transit time from Southampton takes approx. 14 days. RORO vessels offer a safe, secure way of transport for any rolling cargo such as cars, vans, trucks or even caravans to Egypt. All vehicles are secured below deck for optimum safety and is the preferred method of transport due to the savings made against container shipping services.
20ft & 40ft Container Shipping to Egypt
If RORO is not your preferred choice, we also offer shipment to Egypt by container services. Our weekly container vessels load at Felixstowe and takes approx. 15 days to arrival Alexandria port. We can load one car in a 20ft container or two vehicles in a 40ft container or arrange to have the container delivered to your premises where you would arrange your own loading. We can accommodate your requirements in most cases to Egypt, from UK collection of a single vehicle using a trade plate driver or by car carrier for multiple vehicles. We can even arrange UK haulage of the container to your premises and have it dropped to the floor for ease of loading and even leave this with you for up to 14 days.
Egypt Vehicle Import Customs Regulations
Customs duty varies between 40% and 135%
- Tax varies between 10% and 35%.
- Full customs duty and tax is payable for all vehicles.
- For used cars, shippers must prove that they are the first owner of the car.
- For new cars, the car must be imported with the same year of manufacturing.
Cars with trip-tickets issued by automobile clubs are allowed to enter duty and tax free only on tourist basis for 3 months, renewable for another 3 months. Cars must be exported out of Egypt at the end of the 6 months period. Licencing fees is only applicable on those cars
Clearance through Egyptian customs depends on the kind of products that you are shipping. CIF (cost, insurance, freight) is considered for assessing duty. For shipments that cost more than $1000, you will have to produce Certificate of Origin. In addition, such packages have to be stamped and approved. You have to keep in mind that certain things are not allowed to be shipped into Egypt.
Paperwork Requirements for shipping cars to Egypt
The ACID number (advance cargo information declaration) number is generated by the Egyptian customs platform, NAFEZA. This is a unique 19 digit number and must be supplied to us at the time of booking. The shipping line needs to verify the ACID number before they will accept the booking. You can ask your local receiving agent in Egypt to apply for this on your behalf. The documentation that you receive with regards to the ACID number must be sent to us as soon as possible.
EUR 1 Documentation
The EUR 1 certificate us used to support claims of zero rates of duty in Egypt. To qualify for an EUR 1 for Egypt the vehicle MUST 'originate' in the UK. We will require copies of the following documentation for us to complete the EUR 1 for you. 1. Commerical invoice for the car. 2. Certificate of Origin. 3. Log book for the vehicle, i.e, V5C and 4. Photo page of your passport.
